Kinect with customers?

Now that researchers have figured out how to turn a Kinect into a helicopter that flies itself, retailers probably want to start asking themselves why a similar approach can’t be used to greet, entertain and entice customers.

If a Kinect can locate and avoid objects, even ones that move, why can’t a similar set-up be used to notice customers as they approach or enter your store? In this way, a robot or simply a moving display could approach customers and welcome them.

For example, if you operate a toy store, you could even send a few out into the mall and track down all the “little people,” inviting them and their parents to your store. Yes, Kinect can tell the difference between different people.
